Can I make inferences about a character?

Using the extract from ‘Orphans of the Tide’ to consider the character of ‘Hargrath’.

Can you summarise his character in one word?

You need Resource 1e and complete the first four boxes.

Can I write a descriptively from the perspective of a character?

Using the extract from yesterday, reread the description of the whale on the roof.

Research how a whale moves by watching some documentary footage.

Whilst watching, complete Resource 2b expanding your descriptions to include expanded noun phrases.

You are now going to write a description of the whale on the roof from the perspective of your chosen character – Anna, Mother, or Guardsman.

Can I examine the thoughts and feelings of a character?

You are going to need Resource 4a, 4b and the extract for this lesson.

Read through the extract and make note of Claude's thoughts and feelings in the heart.

In the box at the bottom of the sheet, you are going to make a list of the different ways that Claude’s feelings are conveyed to us as a reader.

Using this, write a diary entry from the perspective of Ellie, Anna, Mother or Guardsman.

Can I write a narrative piece of writing?

You need the Pobble picture that has been uploaded onto Tapestry.

You are going to write a story relating to the picture to show off your creative writing skills.

Spelling

Rule: Homophones and near homophones – Part 5

There are three activities uploaded onto Tapestry for you to complete and there are games on Spelling Shed for you to play as well.

Maths

Year 5

(see resources on Tapestry)

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

Can I add decimals within 1?

Add decimals within one whole.

Use place value counters and place value charts to support adding decimals and understand what happens when we exchange between columns.

Can I subtract decimals within 1?

Subtract decimals using a variety of different methods.

Look at taking away using place value counters on a place value grid.

Explore subtraction as difference by using a number line to count on from the smaller decimal

Can I find complements to 1?

Find the complements which sum to make 1.

It is important to see the links with number bonds to 10, 100 and 1000.

This will support finding complements to 1 up to three decimal places.

Can I add decimals by crossing the whole?

Use skills at finding complements to cross over the whole.

Children require flexibility at partitioning decimals, as bridging will be extremely important.

Encourage children to make one first, then add the remaining decimal.

Can I add decimals with the same number of decimal places?

Add decimals greater than one with the same number of decimal places.

Place value grids and counters are extremely helpful in ensuring understanding of the value of each digit and understanding when to exchange.

Year 6

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday

Can I order fractions, decimals and percentages?

We are going to be converting between fractions, decimals and percentages in order to order and compare them.

.

Can I find a percentage of an amount? (1)

We are going to be using our known fractional equivalences with bar models and visual representations to find a percentage of a given amount.

Can I find a percentage of an amount? (2)

We are going to be exploring different methods of finding certain percentages, building upon our learning from the previous lesson.

Can I use a known value to solve a missing number problem with percentages?

We are going to be using bar models to find the missing whole or the missing percentage when other values are given.

We are going to be exploring different methods of solving a problem.

RE

Can I explain connections between Isaiah 53 and the key concepts of the Messiah, Sacrifice and Salvation?

You need the passage of Isaiah 53 and the outline of a person (found on the documents section of Tapestry).

Read the passage carefully and write inside the person all of the things that the servant has done or not done.

Around the outside of the outline, list all of the things that have happened to him.
Now, think about what clues there are in the passage that the Suffering Servant was a sacrifice.

Can you find any links between the Suffering Servant and Jesus? Record your ideas and upload to Tapestry.

PE

See online Resources – Spring Term Home PE (I)

Choose from the 10 activities in Pack I – try as many as you can and record your times and scores on your

PE Active Planner to put on Tapestry to share with your teacher.

 Computing

Can I edit a story-based adventure?

Children continue using 2Create in Adventure Story mode.

They complete working from their adventure-game design and test and debug each other’s stories to ensure they are fit for use.

Science

LO: Can I show an understanding of air resistance?

Design and build a parachute to support a hard-boiled egg being dropped from a height.

Your aim is to safely land the egg without cracking the shell.

Take a photo of your egg dropping and annotate your photo describing the forces in action and what is happening in the photo.

You then need to write out instructions for someone to make their own parachute.

LO: Can I identify the effects of friction that acts between moving surfaces?

Design an experiment to investigate if a toy car or buggy move at different speeds across different surfaces.

Choose three surfaces (e.g: polished floor, tarmac, mud).

You could time how long it takes the car to travel a set distance using a stopwatch or clock measure how the car travels from one single push.

You will need to write up your investigation to show your prediction, variables (independent, controlled and dependent), method, results and conclusion to your investigation.

Can I carry out a scientific investigation?

Design an experiment to investigate how far a balloon can push a buggy along.

Look at the resources that are on Tapestry and use a cardboard cereal box as the base of your buggy.

You will need to write up your investigation to show your prediction, variables (independent, controlled and dependent), method, results and conclusion to your investigation.

For your independent variable, you might want to consider the type of the balloon, whether the balloon is round or straight, how much the balloon is blown up, the size of the buggy wheels, the type of wheels used, or the weight of the trolley.

PHSE

Can I recognise the consequences of my actions on myself and others?

Consider these key questions and discuss what is meant by ‘peer pressure’.

Who is responsible for our behaviour?

Why might it not be a good idea to ‘always’ do what the rest of the group wants to do?

What helps people make decisions about how to act?

 MFL

Can I construct a piece of text in French?

You need to recall all of the vocabulary that we have learnt over the course of the last two terms

– you can use the Kahoot quizzes from last week if you would like to.

Over the next three weeks, you are going to be making an ‘All About Me’ book in French.

You need to include: your name, age, where you live; a physical and character description of yourself; details of the family members that you live with; and details of any pets that you have.

Choose a section that you are going to focus on this week ready to continue next week.

Please do NOT finish your booklet all this week.

If you require any additional support please contact your teacher via Tapestry
